15.4. small hikes and some Shvil experience

On Sunday we went a few km north to the dunes and the beach of Shefayim. The sand dunes were about 30 metres above the beach and offered a great view at the sea. We all loved the wild flourishing spring nature. Ute identified and collected wild flowers and herbs. Samy discovered a big turtle and later some canary birds. We also spent some time on the beach just relaxing and enjoying the sun. Jakob and I even went into the cold sea water, but the waves were too wild.

On Monday we went to Zikhron Yaakov, the nearby Ramat Hanadiv garden and Hotem Ha'Carmel, an observation point to the west. Ute loved the whole area and the nature with lots of rare herbs. She collected a big bag so now our apartment is filled with strong smells. In the botanical gardens we watched an interesting film about Baron Edmond de Rothschild who was a visionary for the settlement of Eretz Israel. We also met Itai, a tour guide and also a Shvil Angel who kindly offered me to stay with him next year when I do the desert part of the Shvil - incredible hospitality. At the end of our trip we visited the aqueduct in Beit Hanania which used to transport water to Caesaraea in Roman times.
