2. May: Bethlehem Bible College and Hebron

The morning we spent in the Bethlehem Bible College the only arab speaking evangelical Bible school in the Territories. We received a great impression and overview about this institution.

Gabriel started to introduce us to the Multimedia studio. This is a very important tool to produce material like videos for christian channels or the Internet. Additionally they produce a show here which is broadcasted in the secular channels and is very successful. The show covers social topics like human rights, women rights, medical topics like breast cancer or education. The show is well received by the arab population. On christmast and easter it is even possible to share the good news. Gabriel said that the Bible College has a good reputation and faces no problems from the moslem society.

Later we joined the morning meeting in the chapel were the preacher talked about hope even in difficult circumstances.
Then Madlen Sara the wife of the president of the Bethlehem Bible College shared about here heart for the women and the young in the Palaestinian society. Madlen did her doctor thesis on emerging leaders and leadership development especially about woman as leaders in a patriarch society.
She analyzed Apostel Pauls writings in the New Testament on this topic and brought it in context with the overall statements in the complete bible.
Additionally she sees that the church in this land has to go new ways and here new people and new leaders are needed, she puts big hope in the new generation of young people and works with here whole personality to support and develop them.

Last autumn the Philippus Dienst supported the installation of Solar panels for generation of Electricity.  The staff showed us around and told us about the positive output this new system brings. During winter nearly 50% of the needed energy was created by the system, for the summer even better results are expected.

In the afternoon the biggest part of our group went back to Jerusalem, Nobbi, Ilse, Pragadhi and I went to Hebron. It was amazing to go their. Today was a quiet day in Hebron. So we could walk through the Shuks and little streets of the Old City relaxed. We visited the Tomb of the Patriarchs which is a holy site for Jews, Moslems and Christians. The interesting thing about this site is, that it has two entrances one from the Moslem quarter through the Ibrahimi Mosque and one from the Jewish quarter. The building above the tombs is 2000 years old and was built by King Herod who also built the second temple. In the midst of the Old City Jewish settlers are living. They came back in 1979 and never left again. Now this area is seperated from the rest of the Old City there is a very high level of military presence and former Arab shops had to be closed. The situation there feels bizzar.

After we arrived back in Bethlehem we went to the Church of Nativity were Jesus was born. In the evening we had a nice dinner in a Beduin tent close to the biblical places were the Angels met the Sheperds to tell them that the saviour was born.
